My Track Trends – Streaming Revenue Calculator User Guide

This guide is designed to help any visitor understand, step by step, how to use the My Track Trends calculator—even if they have zero technical experience.

1. What the calculator does

The My Track Trends calculator helps you:

  • Estimate how much money your streams could generate on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Deezer, Amazon Music, and Tidal.
  • See how many streams you need to reach a specific income goal.
  • Factor in real music-industry variables such as:
    • Distributor commission
    • Master split (label / artist / manager)
    • Publishing (composition), if applicable
  • Adjust for listening regions (Latam, Spain, France, French-speaking Canada, etc.) and work in multiple currencies (USD, EUR, MXN, COP, and more).

All results are based on average estimated values. They are not official numbers, but they offer a very useful benchmark for planning.

2. What information is helpful to have before starting

Not required, but it makes your results more accurate:

  • Approximate stream counts per platform (or the income goal you want to reach).
  • Your distributor’s commission (e.g., 15%, 20%, 30%).
  • Your master split:
    • What percentage goes to the label?
    • What percentage goes to you as the artist or producer?
  • Publishing (composition):
    • Do you receive publishing income?
    • What percentage do you want to factor in?

If you don’t know some values, you can leave the defaults for a reasonable “average scenario.”

3. Overview of the calculator interface

When you open the calculator, you’ll see several key sections:

Mode selector

  • Standard Mode: streams → money
  • Goal Mode (often labeled “Set goal”): money → required streams

Platforms section

Fields where you can enter stream counts for:

  • Spotify
  • Apple Music
  • YouTube Music
  • Deezer
  • Amazon Music
  • Tidal

(You can use one or multiple platforms depending on your real data.)

Regional adjustment / listening zone

Choose groups of territories (Latam, Spain, France, French-speaking Canada, etc.) so the calculator uses more accurate averages for those markets.

Currency selector

Choose the currency you want your results in (USD, EUR, MXN, COP, etc.).

Advanced settings

  • Distributor commission
  • Your master percentage
  • Include publishing (composition)

Each label usually includes an ⓘ info icon leading to a more detailed explanation.

Results zone

  • Top section: a clear total estimated amount
  • Below: platform-by-platform breakdown and master/publishing breakdown with average values

4. How to use Standard Mode (streams → money)

This mode answers:
“Based on the streams I already have (or expect to get), how much money could I make?”

Step-by-step

1. Select Standard Mode

Make sure you’re in the mode that calculates earnings based on streams.

2. Select your listening region

Choose the group of territories that best matches your audience:
Latam, Spain, France, French-speaking Canada, etc.
This adjusts average values per stream.

3. Choose your currency

Pick the currency in which you want to see your results (USD, EUR, MXN, etc.).

4. Enter your stream counts

Type your approximate streams for each platform you use, for example:

  • Spotify: 100,000
  • Apple Music: 50,000
  • YouTube Music: 25,000

Or fill in only the platforms you actually use.

5. Adjust advanced settings (optional but recommended)

  • Distributor commission: percentage your distributor keeps.
  • Your master %: the percentage of the master that actually reaches you after label/manager splits.
  • Include publishing: enable this if you want publishing (composition) income added.

If you’re unsure, keep the defaults and refine later.

6. Click “Calculate”

You’ll get:

  • A total estimated earnings figure
  • A platform-by-platform and earnings-type breakdown (master, publishing, etc.)

7. Review the detailed breakdown

Below the main result you’ll see:

  • How much each platform contributes
  • Which averages were used

5. How to use Goal Mode (money → required streams)

This mode answers:
“If I want to earn X amount of money, how many streams do I need?”

Step-by-step

1. Switch to Goal Mode

Click the tab or option labeled “Set goal” or “Goal Mode.”

2. Enter your income goal

Type the amount you want to reach.
You can think in terms of:

  • A campaign goal
  • A launch or release cycle
  • A time-based target

3. Choose your currency and region

  • Select the currency that represents your goal (e.g., USD).
  • Pick the region that best reflects your audience.

4. Choose which platforms to include

You can:

  • Distribute the goal equally across platforms, or
  • Enter your expected distribution manually.

5. Adjust distributor, master and publishing settings

Just like in Standard Mode:

  • Distributor commission
  • Your master percentage
  • Publishing (if enabled)

6. Click “Calculate”

You’ll see:

  • Approximate streams needed per platform
  • A breakdown showing how each service contributes to your goal

6. Advanced settings: how to fill them without confusion

These fields are essential for getting results closer to your real net income.

Distributor commission

Percentage your distributor keeps before paying you.

Examples:

  • 15%
  • 20%
  • 30%

If your distributor works with a flat annual fee instead of a percentage, you can approximate by leaving this at 0%.

Your master %

The percentage of the master revenue that actually goes to you.

If you’re an independent artist without a label:
Your master % is typically close to 100%.

If you have a label or manager split, examples:

  • 50% label / 50% artist
  • 70% label / 30% artist

Enter only the percentage that goes to you.

Include publishing (composition)

Enable this if you want to include composition royalties.

Useful if:

  • You are a songwriter or co-writer
  • You receive income from publishers or PROs

If you only want to see master revenue, leave this off.

Most ⓘ info icons link to detailed explanations for each concept.

7. How to interpret your results

You’ll see two levels of information:

Main number (quick result)

A clear answer to:

  • “How much can I earn from these streams?”
  • or “How many streams do I need to earn this amount?”

This already factors in:

  • Distributor commission
  • Your master percentage
  • Publishing (if enabled)

Detailed breakdown

Shows how the result is distributed by:

  • Platform
  • Type of income (master, publishing, etc.)

This helps you identify:

  • Which platform contributes most
  • How changing regions, splits or commissions affects your net income

At the bottom, you’ll typically see a notice such as:

“Approximate estimates based on average values. These are not official payouts from any platform.”

Very important: these numbers are for planning and comparison—not exact payment guarantees.

8. Quick tips to get the most out of the calculator

Try multiple scenarios

Create optimistic, realistic, and conservative versions by changing region and splits.

Experiment with regions

Switch between Latam, Spain, France, etc., to understand how geography affects your revenue.

Play with master splits

See how your net changes when negotiating a label or management deal.

Use Goal Mode for campaign planning

Set a target income and check how many streams you’ll need on each platform.

Check results in different currencies

Useful when working with international teams or when you earn in one currency but spend in another.
